No, the verification body is not allowed to perform consultation work.
The decision on accreditation of certificates issued by national accreditation bodies is left to the recognition of the countries concerned. All potential clients of accredited bodies should ensure this if necessary.
The application is registered with the ABIS administrator and is considered for review. A lead period of one to two weeks can be expected before the initial response is received. The accreditation process includes document review, pre-test, final testing and accreditation. At all these levels comments and improvement decisions can be made by the ABIS assessment manager or evaluation team. This must be answered promptly by the requesting body. Given the number of parties and processes involved it is difficult to set a definite time for all guarantees. However, the ABIS can provide time frames depending on the cases. ‘How to be authorized’ is a good educational text on this.
Costs include application fees, inspection fees, continuous monitoring fees, travel, etc. Please see the terms and conditions or contact ABIS for details. It is common for ABIS to provide a rating before the accreditation process.
